China's Netizen Population Hits 111mln in 2005

According to a report by China Internet Network Information Center, the population of China's netizens by the end of 2005 reached 111 million, an increase of 170 million households compared to the prior year, with a penetration rate of 8.5%. Of the amount, broadband users increased by 215 million, to 643 million, 50.2% higher than the previous year. However, the amount of dial-up and fixed line subscribers declined. Chinese PCs with Internet access rose by 79 million, to 495 million, equivalent to an annual growth rate of 19%. Meanwhile, the quantity of IP addresses used in China reached 943.9 million, right behind the United States and Japan. On average, a Chinese netizen spent 103.6 RMB per month on Internet services.
